Dear Marching Pride and
Rockets Alumni,
It may be mid-summer but soon the shadows of autumn will approach and
the current Marching Pride members will head to The Rock to prepare
for the fall marching season. In fact, Mr. Berry has already added
band camp information to this fall’s edition of the Marching Pride.
How many of us would like to go back for one more fall with the
“marching family” we loved so much?
While getting everyone together from late August to early November may
be out of the question, one day shouldn’t be a problem. Let’s do
it!!!! You’re invited to the SRU Marching Band Reunion at Homecoming
2010! Mark your calendar…Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, 2010.
Friday evening starts at 5 p.m. with a picnic for students and alumni
at Old Thompson Field with a Pep Rally featuring the Marching Pride
(and Alumni Band) at 7:00 PM. At 9 p.m. there will be fireworks and
bonfire. Saturday features the annual homecoming parade at 10 a.m.,
the Alumni Tailgate Tent at 11:30 a.m. and the football game against
Lock Haven University at 2 p.m.
Following the game at 5:30 p.m. a Marching Pride and Rockets reception
is planned at Alumni House. Some snacks, a little beverage and lots of
reminiscing are on the agenda. Cost is only $5 per person at the door.
If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to the alumni office at
1-800-GET-ROCK so they know how much refreshment to order.
Dr. Hawk has agreed to direct an Alumni Band so please let us know if
you wish to play. We also need to know who’s interested in marching or
riding in the Homecoming Parade (George McDowell, drum major ’80-’81,
is providing a tractor and wagon). The parade route is almost one mile
in length in case you’re thinking of marching.
You have plenty of time to set aside all or part of the day to join
the fun. There’s no excuse why we can’t have all 2,800 of us show up!
If you need a hotel room, call 724-748-5514 to reserve your room at
the Holiday Inn Express in Grove City; be sure to ask for the special
SRU Homecoming rate.
If you’re on Facebook be sure to join the SRU Marching
Rockets/Marching Pride Reunion-Homecoming 2010 group. It’s a great
place to share photos, videos, and track down old friends as well as
get the latest info for this fall’s reunion. If you’re not on Facebook,
get there! For more information and updates to the homecoming schedule
keep checking the homecoming website at
http://rockalumnicafe.com/HC10.
Whether your band director’s name was Swope, Scarnati, Hawk or Berry;
you marched one year or four; were a Rocklette; member of the guard;
an instrumentalist or support staff; you’re part of a family that has
a legacy like no other organization or team from the Rock.
If you’re interested in helping with the reunion or to RSVP please
contact me at
tim@pawest-soccer.org or call 412-609-8011.
Sincerely,
Tim McCoy

The Slippery Rock Marching Rockets
and Pride Alumni have
been involved in at least six reunion meetings on Campus.
The 2002 Reunion was as
"expected" both fun and as unexpected.......NOT WET!
Of course this was a special year.

The
Marching Band field was dedicated FOREVER as the
Blase S. Scarnati Marching Band
Field.
Mr. S. sent us a special message he asked us
to share. So in his own words:
Dear Kevin:
There are just too many thank you's to write and
send to various individuals, so I thought something over our web site
would do the trick. Could you send the following:

October 9, 2002
Dear Marching Rockets,
I wish to thank everyone for the warmth, love
and friendship that was displayed for the field dedication and
the roast. Never have I felt so honored in all my career.
Those that did not attend really missed an event that will
never be duplicated, just remembered. I felt like I was on a
roller coaster the entire day. What fun!
You are a proud bunch of individuals
and I hope you continue to come back for Homecoming. It
only takes one person to call another person who calls another
person and before you know it you have a gathering of all of
your old Marching friends. You had something great. Don't
throw it away.
I will be forever thankful for the
field dedication. As one person said, "It is good to know
someone that has something named for them before they die". I
hope to be around for a long time with the good Lord willing.
Remember to "Shine Like New Money" and I hope to see everyone
for Homecoming 2003.
Love ya all,
'S'
